Privacy Policy — SubtitleAI

Last updated: June 3, 2026

SubtitleAI ("the Extension", "we", "us") is a browser extension that translates on‑screen subtitles on Netflix and YouTube and provides word look‑ups. This policy explains what data the Extension processes and why.

We do not sell your data, show ads, build advertising profiles, or require you to create an account.

What we process

1. Subtitle text you are watching When translation is enabled, the text of the subtitles currently on screen (or the video's subtitle track) is sent to our server to be translated. It is used only to produce the translation shown back to you.

2. Word look‑ups When you click a word, that word and the surrounding subtitle sentence are sent to our server to generate a definition/explanation.

3. Anonymous usage identifier On install, the Extension generates a random ID (a UUID) stored locally in your browser. It is sent with translation requests so we can enforce free‑plan daily limits and prevent abuse. It is not linked to your name, email, or identity.

4. IP address Our server (Cloudflare) processes your IP address as part of normal request handling and to enforce abuse limits. We do not store it for tracking.

5. License key (paid users only) If you enter a subscription license key, it is sent to our server to verify your subscription with our payment provider (Lemon Squeezy).

6. Local settings Your preferences (source/target language, enabled state, license key, anonymous ID) are stored in your browser via Chrome storage and may sync across your Chrome profile. They are not sent to us except as described above.
